So, something, I've been meaning to ask is, are there bettr lens flares in 3DS Max then the one in the trailer? Because the lens flare that is there no looks like a faded cut out image pasted over the footage. You can tell something isn't right because the lens reflections simply move to the side instead of rotating and then disappearing once at the right angle

I believe there are better lens flares in Max, I'm just not that good at making them.

well, i'm still not certain if its for max, i didn't really read it much. i can't believe flares are that diffcult though. in AM, we just add a light to the scene, go to its options and choose lens flare. then we can edit the flare settings.

Hm...I read through it and it doesn't say much about making GOOD lens flares...the strategies for A:M and MAX in making lens flares are similar, add a light and then add the effects. I just don't know how to make advanced ones. I'll try experimenting more when I get the next chance.

I've found a plugin for 3ds Max that I'm going to try called FinalFlares.

Hm...the controls don't look anything at all like Max...I'll put up some screens of how glow effects work in Max when I can.

OK, how does this look? I think I did a bit of overkill on the streaks personally.

It also looks like I have to buy finalflares, which is $286 that I currently do not have.

it's better, but definitely streak overkill. especially those thick ones. they don't seem natural. se how the streaks on mine are more blurred, see if you can get yours like that. It still has a bit of cut and paste feel in the thicker streaks. Also, do you know if when the flare changes direction, if the halo reflections change angle as well, or are hey like you last lens flare where they stayed th same and just moved across the screen until out of sight?

Sort of an update, without as many streaks.

And at the last frame:

As for the halos, IDK for certain.

hmm, the halos should be gone on that last frame. here, i'll render a quick lens pass by like in yours, and you'll see how a flare should react with the camera

OK, I also had a thought of adding a lens flare to the Earth-Link itself.

yeah, in my early attempts at the link, i used a flare for it. I'm really thinking that the link should have more of a sucking black hole look to it though. It seems to lack something currently, depth perhaps. You can't tel what your position is in relation to it methinks is what it is

yeah. look into black hole event horizons and perhaps gather some inspiration. also, can i have a 1440X 900 pic of that new flare with earth partially in shadows, maybe a little ways in from the first frame you posted
